Manila Philippines - Miss USA Olivia Culpo took home the Miss Universe 2012 crown in a Christmas-themed pageant that took place at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Miss Philippines Janine Tugonon was 1st runner up, Venezuela was 2nd, Australia 3rd, and Brazil 4th.
This is the Philippines' best finish since Miriam Quiambao in 1999. It is also the 3rd consecutive year that a Filipina has made the Miss Universe Top 5. In 2010 Venus Raj was 4th runner up and in 2011 Shamcey Supsup was 3rd runner up.
Responding to a question by Nigel Barker sent in via Twitter, Tugonon was asked, "As an international ambassador, do you believe that speaking English is a prerequisite to be Miss Universe?"

-My Thoughts
Miss Philippines Janine Tugonon has been one of the favorites in the Miss Universe pageant since the rehearsals. the judges and the organizers have seen the true spirit in Janine. In the pageant, the Filipinos never failed to support her.
"Kinabahan ako dahil ang tagal kong tinawag sa top 10" - "I was nervous because I was called to the top ten last" -she said in one of her interviews. One of her weapons for the pageant is her phenomenal - Cobra walk. It is the successor of last year's Miss Philippines Shamcey Supsup's Tsunami walk. She walked elegantly, with grace, passion and with the spirit of the Filipino.
"Her Face is to die for gorgeous. And her walk is amazing. She never looks down." -said one of the presentors of the pageant. She looked gorgeous in her swimsuit. though she have mentioned in one of the interviews that she struggled with the shoes because they were too loose for her feet.
She was called for the top 5 and looked gorgeous in her fabulous blue gown for the final walk. She did well in the question and answer portion which recieved a lot of praises and finished 1st runner up.
The filipino people were happy at the same time sad that janine only finished 1st runner up.. but Janine always says in her interviews that the filipino must be happy. because it's another honor and pride brought to the PHILIPPINES . There were some tweets i read that said that it is a homecourt advantage for the U.S. but nevertheless, it is a filipino pride and the Filipinos are very proud of JANINE.
